Conn Smythe Trophy Winners

Most Valuable Players in Regular Season and Playoffs

The Conn Smythe Trophy is awarded to the most valuable player throughout the playoffs. It was first awarded in 1965 and is named after Conn Smythe, the general manager and coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs from 1927 to 1959. Three players have won the Conn Smythe Trophy and the Hart Memorial Trophy for Most Valuable Player during the regular season in the same year. These players are:

  • Bobby Orr (1970, 1972)
  • Wayne Gretzky (1985, 1988)
  • Mario Lemieux (1992)

Winning the Trophy as a Member of the Losing Team

Six players have won the Conn Smythe Trophy as a member of the losing team in the Cup Final. These players are:

  • Roger Crozier (1966 Detroit Red Wings)
  • Glenn Hall (1968 St. Louis Blues)
  • Tim Thomas (2011 Boston Bruins)
  • Henrik Lundqvist (2014 New York Rangers)
  • Corey Perry (2017 Anaheim Ducks)
